Technology is something that changes every second. As you read this article, you are planning to create or invent something new for the world. So for the past few years, researchers have been researching eco-friendly materials that can be used as a substitute for glass. They are currently researching the use of wood. They also hope to use this in smartphone manufacturing.
Research information on this has been published on the website of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The study was conducted by researcher Junyong Zhu in collaboration with the University of Maryland and the University of Colorado. They have done this research using balsa wood, and the transparent wood produced is more durable than glass, and the strength and lightness are high.
Balsa wood is still used in molding, packaging, and insulation. Balsa wood is oxidized at room temperature to form Transparent wood by the addition of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA).
Thus, the heat capacity, strength, durability and lightness of the transparent wood produced by Balsa wood is higher than that of ordinary wood. It is also flexible.
Currently, this is a replacement for window glass and researchers hope to develop it for the automotive industry in the future. Also, if this research is successful in the future, these wooden glasses will be available on mobile phones as well.
